Brownfields Initiative

Helping Create "Green" Redevelopment

Vermonters are known for their attitudes and practices in environmental stewardship. The Brownfields Initiative is an example of this commitment. The initiative combines the economic development expertise of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) with the environmental experience and technical know-how of the Agency of Natural Resources (ANR).

Grantee Guidance

Planning Rendering

For many years, annual funding has been provided to support municipal planning projects. This support, in the form of grants, has helped draft and update town plans and bylaws. A complete list of projects funded through the MPG Program between 1998 and 2018 is available here.

Applicant Guidance

All Municipal Planning Grant (MPG) applications must be submitted through the online grants management system. Grants are available to municipalities with a confirmed local planning process. Municipalities without a confirmed local planning process may only apply for funding to obtain confirmation.  The work documents below should be used to prepare the content of your application before you begin the online application process.
