The Vermont State Register of Historic Places is the state’s official list of historic properties significant to the history of the Green Mountain state. Established in 1979 and administered by the Division for Historic Preservation, the Vermont State Register is an essential tool for the evaluation and protection of Vermont’s historic and archaeological resources. The same criteria are used to evaluate resources for inclusion in the State Register as are used for the National Register. Over 30,000 buildings, structures, sites, objects, and historic districts are listed in the Vermont State Register.

The Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation reviews and approves all nominations to the State Register of Historic Places upon the recommendations of the Division for Historic Preservation.
