Vermont’s Aerospace Industry Participates in Aerospace Innovation Forum in Montreal
The Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) participated in the Aerospace Innovation Forum 2018, hosted by Aero Montreal, on Monday April 16 to Tuesday April 17 in Montreal, Canada. The ACCD was joined by seven Vermont businesses in the aerospace industry: MSI, Stephens Precision, Sathorn Corporation, Microwire Transmission, Liquid Measurement Systems, SemiProbe, and Vermont Aerospace. The joint goals were to expand business in Canada, the U.S. and France, which are the major players in the aerospace industry, as well as bring in business expansion and investment to Vermont.
Also present at the event were Susan Murray from the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, Chris Carrigan from the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, and Governor Phil Scott, who personally met with over a dozen businesses in the industry to discuss the future and expansion of the aerospace industry in Vermont.
“The State of Vermont is committed to supporting our strong businesses in the aerospace and aviation industry as well as strengthening collaborative ties with our Canadian partners, as they so closely align to our economic development strategies which include building the Vermont brand and pulling in foreign direct investment,” says Governor Scott.
Vermont is home to a thriving $2 billion aerospace and aviation industry, with powerful industry leaders and an established supplier base of over 250 small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs). World-class primes such as Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman rely on Vermont’s manufacturers to design, build and deliver high quality products with innovation, speed to market and competitive advantage. The economic impact of civil aviation alone for the state of Vermont includes $1.2 billion in economic output, $298 million in earnings and 9,505 jobs (Federal Aviation Administration, September 2017).
The Aerospace Innovation Forum is the largest gathering of aerospace professionals in Canada, organized by Aero Montreal in collaboration with the National Research Council Canada(NRC). As the sixth edition of the international event, this year’s main theme was disruptive technologies in the aerospace industry. The Forum included workshops, conferences, B2B meetings, networking sessions and presentations by international industry experts, business leaders and government officials.
