Mitigating and Responding to COVID-19 in the Workplace

UPDATE: CDC and Vermont Department of Health Guidance

(Updated 12.30.21) On Monday, December 27th, 2021 the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced the shortening of the recommended isolation time for individuals who test positive for COVID-19 from a 10-day isolation to a 5-day isolation, followed by 5-days of strict mask adherence.  The Governor’s COVID-19 response team has reviewed this new guidance and adopted the new CDC policy for Covid-19 isolation and quarantine while adding an additional layer of recommended protection.

In addition to the CDC guidance, the Vermont Department of Health (VDH) guidelines allow Vermonters to end isolation after 5 days if they have gone 24 hours without a fever and have two negative antigen tests performed at least 24 hours apart, beginning no sooner than day 4 of their isolation period. Continuing to wear a mask around others through day 10 is strongly recommended by both the CDC and VDH.

ACCD recommends all businesses implement these guidelines with their employees and customers as well.  ACCD acknowledges there is currently a shortage of antigen tests available. This testing supply will increase rapidly in the coming weeks. As a result, businesses may have to default to the CDC recommendation alone for the time being.

ACCD strongly recommends that when tests become more available, employers require employees to have two negative antigen tests performed at least 24 hours apart, beginning no sooner than day 4 of their isolation period to ensure they are not returning while infectious. This is the best way to mitigate further spread of COVID-19.

Mitigating COVID-19 in the Workplace Webinar

The Agency of Commerce and Community Development hosted a webinar on December 20th, to go over recommendations to reduce COVID-19 disruption in the workplace. Officials from the Agency of Human Services, Department of Health, Department of Labor, and Agency of the Administration presented and then answer questions from businesses.
