Vermont law defines a mobile home park as any parcel of land which contains, or is laid out or adapted to accommodate more than two mobile homes. Contiguous parcels that contain a total of more than two mobile homes (or mobile home lots) are a mobile home park when they are owned or controlled by the same person. There are limited exceptions for seasonal parks and housing for farm employees.
Vermont's mobile home parks provide an important source of affordable housing for about seven thousand Vermont households. The Department oversees the State's mobile home park law which was adopted to protect the safety and rights of owners and residents, and administers rules concerning mobile home park leases, rent increases, sale or closure of mobile home parks, and habitability standards, and conducts an annual registration of Vermont mobile home parks. The Department serves as a resource on mobile and manufactured homes and park issues.
