Act 250: The Next 50 Years - Manchester
The legislative commission on Act 250 has scheduled six public forums. The first one was in Springfield on June 27 at 6 pm. Here’s a list of the remaining meetings:
- July 11, Manchester (Inn at Manchester)
- July 25, Randolph
- August 22, Island Pond
- September 5, Rutland
- September 10, Burlington
The Commission’s Facebook page is the best source of specific information about the meetings.
The plan for these sessions is to open with a brief introduction to Act 250, followed by small group activities (at tables) to draw out participants’ priorities for the Vermont landscape and the Act 250 process. For example, in one exercise participants will be asked to prioritize values such as Agricultural and Forest Productivity, Settlement Patterns, Economic Development, Public Trust, and Scenic Natural Beauty. In another, participants will be asked to grapple with Access and Voice, Exemptions, Jurisdiction, Permitting and Appeals. There will not be any open mike opportunity, just a note-taker at each of the tables.
In addition to the public forums, there will be survey, which should provide a more focused opportunity for input. The survey should be available in mid-July.
